This apartment for 6 is on a Tuscan winery just south of Florence. The original farmhouse and annexes have been converted into apartments that allow you to experience Tuscan life, surrounded by the vines that produce the estate's excellent wine.
All the apartments have been decorated with care and verve by the Laura, the matriarch of the family; the Hay Loft is on the old space that used to store hay and still has the large aerated windows that used to keep the hay ventilated. Now glazed, they give a wonderful dappled light to the living room and the bedrooms.
There are several outdoor areas to enjoy supper or an aperitivo in the garden, as well as a large covered barn for communal eating or cooking on an open fire.
The nearby town is within walking distance, with a train station and restaurant 2km away, around 30min. The nearby train station makes visits into Florence easy and quick.
This charming apartment is situated in an old hay barn, reached by a flight of external stone steps. The light and airy open plan living-dining room has beautiful large characteristic brick lattice windows and traditional Tuscan high beamed ceilings, reflecting its former life. Tucked just off the dining area is a small but well equipped kitchen with all modern conveniences, perfect for preparing meals.
The furnishings are wonderfully eclectic, with an old carpenters bench now used as the side board and lamps crafted from old agricultural tools.
Three well-sized bedrooms have large floor to ceiling lattice windows, two of which corner the house, overlooking the surrounding vineyards and catching both the morning and evening sun. These two bedrooms share a central bathroom with shower. The third bedroom has a bathroom en suite.
This old wine estate is on a slope above the town of Pontassieve, which can be reached via a path in about 10 minutes. From Pontassieve you can easily reach Florence by train, making a perfect spot to relax in the countryside but with easy access to the galleries, museums and restaurants of Florence.
You can also easily explore Chianti by car - or via an organized wine-tasting tour so nobody has to drive. Arezzo is not far south and can also be reached by train or car.
